FAQs

Do you have questions? Of course you do.

Here are the questions I’m asked most often — but if yours isn’t there, don’t worry. Just pop it into the box.

What's the difference between a writer and a copywriter?

Copywriters are writers, but with an added bonus – the art of persuasion. I look at things from your customer’s point of view. By explaining the benefits of your product or service, I give readers a good reason to buy.

You’ll get perfect grammar and spelling, but that’s only part of the story. I write in a naturally conversationally style which draws readers from one sentence to the next – right down to the call to action.

How can you write about my business? You're not an expert in the field.

Good copywriters are expert researchers. Before writing a word, I take time to learn the language and practicalities of your industry, no matter how technical.

Bear in mind that your customer is not an industry expert. Otherwise, why would they need your services? Insider jargon will simply put them off.

Rather than a wall of  `how’ details, readers want to know why they should part with their hard-earned cash. When website content focuses on clearly defined benefits, it starts making you money.

I'm good at writing. Why shouldn't I write my own content?

Because you’re busy running a business. You’re good at your job, but may not be an expert at holding the attention of notoriously impatient website readers.

Engaging written content is a two-way conversation, a friendly chat over a cup of coffee. It sounds effortless (even though it isn’t). And it takes time.

You have better things to do. The most profitable businesses outsource to experts, which is what makes them successful.

Do you write other stuff, besides website content?

If words are involved then I can help. It could be brochure content, newsletters, product descriptions, step-by-step documentation, e-books or user instructions. Head over to my copywriting services page for more information.

How does content help SEO?

Since 2015, Google has been rewarding websites that contain high-quality content. In short, it moves them up the rankings. How do they measure quality? There are various ways, but here are the top 2:

1. How long someone spends on your page (dwell time).

2. The number of people who click through to other pages on your website (click-through rate).

If your content is extremely engaging, and correctly optimised to provide EXACTLY what the searcher is looking for, they’ll stick around on your website and read more. And when lots of people do this… Bingo! Google gives you a gold star.

To be honest, most internet readers have the attention span of a gnat. They won’t engage with shoddy, poorly written content.

I only provide the good stuff.

Are you expensive?

You’ll need a budget. However, please bear in mind that with over 10 years’ experience I can guarantee 3 things:

  • I’ll do a great job
  • I work fast. If you need fresh website content, you’ll get it within 2 weeks
  • You’ll earn the money back as a direct result of my work

The cost will obviously depend on what’s required. The quickest way to get a competitive quote is to call Helen on 07765 520 624 with  a basic idea of what you need. If you’re local, we can meet – but it’s fine over the phone.

You’ll receive an accurate written project quote within 24 hours. It’s fixed at that rate so there won’t be any nasty surprises.
